PORSCHE CARRERA CUP SEASON COMES TO AN END

The final round of the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship took place over the weekend of the 13th and 14th October at the super fast Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire and despite a disappointing weekend Andy Britnell came away having secured the runner-up spot in the highly competitive ProAm Championship.

Andy has enjoyed a season long battle with Nigel Rice and went to Thruxton on a bit of a roll having won 3 of the last 4 races and closed the points gap to Rice to within a mathematical chance of the title. It was not to be however as Saturday's qualifying was hindered by a circuit covered with coolant and if you hadn't done your quick lap in the first 5 minutes it was almost impossible to go quicker. These circumstances left Andy 3rd on the ProAm grid behind Rice and the ever improving Charles Bateman. The Saturday race was fairly uneventful and the results were as per grid position leaving Rice certain of the title.

With the Championship positions effectively decided the Sunday Race was more about having some fun and Andy took the chase to both Rice and Bateman and had eased past Charlie on the run up Woodham Hill only for the Gearbox to break and force him into the only mechanical retirement of the year.

It was a bit of an anti-climatic end to a fantastic season and left Andy determined to return in 2008 for another attack at the ProAm Championship.

Motor Racing, despite only one person behind the wheel, is actually a team effort and none of it would be possible without supporters, sponsors and the boys at Motorbase Performance.
